Surgical Orthodontic Treatment
There are certain malocclusions (faulty bites) that result from underlying skeletal abnormalities related to genetics, faulty growth and development or trauma. Surgical Orthodontic Treatment involves pre-surgical orthodontic tooth movement to align the teeth prior to Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery in close coordination with an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.
This includes:
-
Deficient lower jaw
-
Deficient upper jaw
-
Excess vertical growth of the upper jaw (“gummy smile”)
-
Strong forward growth of the lower jaw (skeletal “underbite”)
-
Skeletal crossbite caused by a narrow upper jaw
-
Anterior open bite relationship (front teeth don’t touch when biting)
-
Posterior open bite relationship (back teeth don’t touch when biting)
-
Skeletal asymmetry
-
Facial/jaw traumatic fractures
